Technique

Having trained as an artist at Batley Art college over 30 years ago my work always evolves through traditional techniques with traditional media. Over the many years of constantly evolving as an artist and being always keen to explore new methods of image making my attention was drawn to the computer as the latest in new tools. These paintings are created using tradition techniques combined with the new media of Digital Paint, entirely hand painted using a Wacom Intuos tablet and pen with CORAL PAINTER natural media simulation software. There is no physical artwork and the prints are a strict limited edition of 195. Giclee prints on high quality paper.

I have worked as a professional artist for 30 years, commissions often in the areas of children's book illustration and feature film animation. I have illustrated many books including NELLY THE MONSTER SITTER by Kes Grey and new covers for Enid Blyton's THE SECRET SEVEN, as well as writing and illustrating FROOBIE PINK and the NIGHT NOISES. Animation feature film and TV credits include, Roald Dahl's THE BFG, DANGERMOUSE, BALTO and very recently as a visual development artist on ARTHUR CHRISTMAS and PIRATES in an Adventure with Scientists from Aardman Animations in Bristol.

This is the first time I have produced paintings for exhibition and this new series of limited edition dog prints currently selling in select galleries and now with Arthouse Gallery in London. I am currently working on several new pieces for Summer/Autumn 2012.

Stephens characters  also feature in the 'Pepperami 'ad Kellogs Corn Flakes,Air Wick,(skunks on sofa) and countless childrens books and films.
